The Islands Given its name for what appears to be large underwater islands of shore, that are visible at low tide. Approximately 60m offshore you enter into a sandy lagoon with a maximum depth of 8m, keeping the reef wall on your left you swim over shallow saddles in the reef over a total 4 lagoons ranging is size and depth. Once in the last lagoon, you zig zag your way up and down and around a hugh range of reef structures and coral formations, and making your way around the largest island you reach an absolute maximum depth of 18m. Following the reef wall you wind your way bag towards the first pool via another maze of coral structures, and then exit through a small crack in the reef table.
The islands is an outstanding area of coral some of which reach gigantic proportions and has an incredible amount of fish life. You can see the largest school of juvenile barracuda residing here among the snappers, giant puffers, napoleon fish, groupers, rays and much more.
As it is impossible to go deeper than 18m (unless you start digging) it makes it a site accessible to all divers in most conditions, although in rough weather at low tide it should be avoided, as entry and exit can be difficult. |
