Innovatively combining safety and social networking across the globe and across town.
Gaptrac is a UK company that have built an infrastructurer that allows people to connect and share whatever they are doing wherever they are in the world. Using an online control panel anyone can see what their friends or family are up to. There are 2 main benefits of all this, Social Networking and Safety.
What does it do
Gaptrac sends out a singal every few minutes to the uses mobile phone. This records their position and displays on a Google Earth styled user interface online. It also take the uses photos, videos and other media and adds them on the map where and when they were taken. On the user interface this allows anyone who is following the user to see where they are and what they are up to.
Social Networking
The user chooses who to follow and who is allowed to follow them. From there everything that they do is shown on the satelite map along with everything else they connect and share. This allows Gappers to share ideas and experiences in what is effectively a live, visual highly advanced version of Facebook. And for parents it allows you to see where your son or daughter without invading their independence.
Safety
Gaptrac has built in safety features which are ideal for the Gap Year traveller. Firstly it has an emergency button. Usually this involves holding down number 5 on the phone keyboards. The mobile phone will immediately connect them to the 24 hour emergency UK helpdesk. The signal strength on the mobile turns to full so that their position is visible on the GoogleEarth styled user interface to the second, and any emergency information Next of Kin, medical information etc.. becomes visible on the screen at the emergency helpdesk. That way the emergency can be dealt with anywhere in the world.
