Scuba Diving as attained a highly impressive safety record by implementing and enforcing proper diving procedure. Gone are the days of scaremongering stories with a record of safety better than that of many other sports.
Safety training is instilled on divers from day one, ensuring that even entry level divers are taught basic skills needed to ensure their safety and the safety of others. Both PADI and Dive The Gap view this as paramount. “When we teach people to dive we start of in water that you can stand up in, we do many skills in this much water allowing divers to get familiar with all their equipment and all situations that they would be in when diving. From loosing a mask to learning to hover, we start it all in less than 2 metres of water. This ensures that everyone knows what they are doing before we proceed any further.”
PADI Diving courses are also progressive. You cannot proceed in the course without completing the preceding skills and modules. This ensures a gradual learning process that allows divers to get comfortable and achieve mastery in all areas.
One of the antiquated misleading statements out there is that diving is dangerous. But the fact of the matter is that with Hyberbaric medical centres in diving locations and a proper system of education diving is in fact one of the safest activities that you can do.
At Dive The Gap we have a 100% safety record. Furthermore where we are based in Dahab there are 2 hyperbaric centres and one of the finest medical professionals for diving in the world certified by Divers Alert Network (DAN), the industry leading diver treatment and insurance company.
